Graham McRae on the grid in his McLaren F5000 at Levin, 1970.

The Tasman F5000 series in New Zealand drew competition came from the world over, but it was McRae who dominated the early years, winning the 1971, 192 & 1973 Championships.

"As far as I was concerned, the Formula 5000 at its height was a more exciting car to drive that the Formula 1 cars of the day. They were a "man's car" and are still drawing the crowds today. Makes you wonder why we ever got rid of them!" - Graham McRae.
